This module specifies the requirements for the preventive maintenance of GSMR/ GSM lineside telephones.

It applies to all persons engaged in the maintenance and testing of this type of lineside telephones.

NOTE 1: This module does not apply to fault fix and failure investigation maintenance. Their maintenance is covered in NR/L2/TEL/31001.

NOTE 2: This module does not apply to the maintenance of end to end systems that include the transmission system, monitoring system and other telecommunication systems. Their maintenance is covered in NR/L2/TEL/31002 together with general competency requirements.

NOTE 3: This module does not apply to the maintenance of telecommunication power plant and batteries. Their maintenance is covered in NR/L3/TEL/30081.

Purpose

The purpose of this module is to reduce the risk arising from the failure of Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway/Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM-R/GSM) Lineside Telephones.

This module mandates a set of periodic services intended to provide assurance that the operational life of the asset is prolonged.
