The TMH shall be used by all Track / Off Track Engineering and Maintenance staff undertaking Patrolling, Inspection, Maintenance of Track/Off Track assets. Use of the TMH will establish a consistent approach to direct maintenance provision within Network Rail.

This preface document and each work instruction is individually controlled and issued via Network Rail Standards Management.

Purpose

This Work Instruction Preface introduces the Track Maintenance Handbook (TMH). The handbook is a collection of Track and Off Track Work Instructions some of which existed in previous forms as Network Rail Standard Operating Procedures. This issue of the preface establishes consistent content and format for all areas.

The TMH is a compact, easy to use document which reflects the contents of the Technical Specification "Inspection and Maintenance of Permanent Way" (NR/L2/TRK/001) and other pertinent track standards.

The TMH contains Work Instructions which define the activity required and the sequence required when performing maintenance work on Track/Off Track Assets.
