This Standard Maintenance Procedure, (SMP) describes the activities which shall be implemented so defective rails are classified, actioned and reported in accordance with the appropriate specifications.
Only if a suspect defect is confirmed by competent staff shall the defect be considered reportable and this process adopted.
This procedure does not cover the management of broken rails which is covered in NR/L3/TRK/1014 Management of broken rails.
Purpose
This document details the procedure to be adopted for the management of rail defects.
