This document applies to:
a) all staff who specify, design or supply modular S&C units on Network Rail Infrastructure; and
b) all new S&C installations (turnouts, crossovers and double junctions) that vary from the standard joint arrangement from the relevant RE/PW drawing.
An overview of the modular bearer joint system and the components that make up the joint can be found in NR/L3/TRK/3406/03.
Purpose
The purpose of this module is to define the specification for placement of modular bearer joints within switch & crossings (S&C) layouts.
Where joint positions are to be changed from those shown on RE/PW drawings, or where a RE/PW drawing is not available for a particular layout, this document provides a framework for bearer joint arrangements.
NOTE: There are additional requirements in NR/L2/TRK/2102, and both are applicable to modular S&C design.
Compliance with this document provides a process to mitigate risks associated with gauge and geometry (i.e. twist) faults in the track system within modular S&C.
