This standard applies to:

a) all track segments authorised by the RAM[T] and recorded on a NR/L3/TRK/003/TEF3256, where UTU is to be used for routine ultrasonic testing using techniques U15 and U16 on full depth plain line rail sections; and

b) all P1*- P4 UTU ultrasonic suspects identified by the UTU.

It does not apply to: eddy current testing; the ultrasonic testing of planed rail sections; or additional specified ultrasonic testing.

NOTE: The UTU estimates the size of ultrasonic suspects to assign a verification priority to each suspect.

Purpose

This document provides a process for the management of UTU ultrasonic suspects and UTU ultrasonically untested track sections.

This supports:

a) the requirements outlined in NR/L2/TRK/001/06; and

b) the Non-Actionable Repeat Marked Object (NARMO) process.
