To confirm that during the planning stage, staff are aware of their duties with regard to site specific surveys and the production of site specific method statements, which must be made available to the delivery contractor and NDS prior to any rail delivery required by Maintenance.

This procedure relates only to site surveys for rail delivery. It does not define how rail replacement will be undertaken.

A pre-requisite of this procedure is that track access must have been secured for the rail delivery.

Purpose

To provide a Site Specific Method Statement (SSMS) to complement National Delivery Service's (NDS) Generic Method Statements for the delivery of rail to maintenance worksites.

The SSMS will, as far as is reasonably practicable, arrange for the safety of staff and adequate protection of other infrastructure during the rail delivery operation, taking into account site configuration, and other works planned to be undertaken within the track possession.
