This procedure applies to all track segments where SE-UTU is to be used for Ultrasonic Testing using techniques U15 and U16 on full depth plain rail sections. This procedure does not apply for Ultrasonic Testing of Switches and Crossings or other planed rail sections.

This procedure relies upon the contractual arrangements in place between Network Rail and Sperry Rail Ltd.

A pre-requisite of this procedure is that the resources and budget are in place to allow the transition from manual testing to the use of SE-UTU Ultrasonic Testing.

Purpose

This document defines the process for replacing compliant pedestrian ultrasonic testing with an ultrasonic testing regime using a Sperry Equipped Ultrasonic Test Unit (SE-UTU).
