This Special Inspection Notice applies to Signal Engineering, Track Engineering and Maintenance and applies to:

i. all S&C (facing and trailing points) fitted between Crewe and Motherwell inclusive on the West Coast Main Line where the line speed is 80mph or above (main running lines including stations).

ii. all S&C (facing and trailing points) across all Territories that have flat-bottom full-depth, vertical switches driven by point machines and fitted with Fixed Stretcher Bars where the line speed is 80mph or above.

Purpose

The purpose of this Special Inspection Notice shall be to examine defined sets of points focusing on point stretcher bars, stretcher bar fasteners, free wheel clearance and track gauge.

Since the scope of this Special Instruction Notice encompasses Signal Engineering, Track Engineering and Maintenance, this will be a combined exercise and staff will therefore be required from all these departments.
