This Special Inspection Notice applies to all station buildings which require an initial inspection / examination to ascertain whether architectural features are present. Where such features exist, the RAM shall instruct a detailed inspection / examination of the features to ensure that they do not pose a hazard to health and safety. The appointed contractor or competent engineer is to initiate, prepare, plan, execute and report on the inspection / examination results with respect to asset failure probability and the risks to passenger and staff safety in the event of the asset failure.
Purpose
This Special Inspection Notice (SIN) applies to all station building assets which have decorative or functional architectural features attached to them. This SIN is issued following an incident at Bath Spa Station and requires Route Asset Managers (RAMs) responsible for station buildings as part of the Operational Property portfolio to:-
• Identify if the above features are present on Station buildings
• Instruct and manage a detailed additional inspection / examination of these features by utilising the current CEFA contractor or a competent surveyor.
