This Special Inspection Notice is applicable to Ring Main Units owned by Network Rail, whether maintained by Network Rail staff, contractors or third parties, and to the Delivery Units (DUs) in whose areas this equipment is sited.

Purpose

The purpose of this Special Inspection Notice is to:

a) Identify Ring Main Unit assets across the Network Rail estate;

b) Record asset details;

c) Update the Ellipse records (or other asset database records, where applicable) of all Ring Main Units; and

d) Identify the assets liable to loss of SF6 gas and manage the risks.
