Action taken in accordance with this document shall only permit normal basic maintenance work to be undertaken. These duties shall not require the use of any long tools but meters and their connecting leads have been taken into account. Any other work shall be planned in accordance with NR/SP/ELP/29987.

It should be noted that on signal ladders clearance to pantographs is not provided since staff are expected to move clear of trains and a proper standing space is provided for maintenance duties.
