The application of the instruction is limited to a 6 month trial by the MP&I Track Programme's High Output renewals team.
The special requirements of this instruction apply at locations of work undertaken by MP&I Track Programme's High Output renewals team on Western Territory, where the Permissible Speed (PS) or planned Temporary Speed Restriction (TSR) is above 50 mph but does not exceed 80 mph. On high cant deficiency curves, the Enhanced Permissible Speed (EPS) shall either be withdrawn or reduced to a maximum of 150 mm of cant deficiency.
The instruction applies to the use of Robel 68.05 clamps (Design 3) in conjunction with 850mm long fishplates manufactured by Corus Cogifer. A compliant Joint is illustrated in Appendix A.
Purpose
This instruction defines the requirements for installing temporary clamped rail joints using Robel 68.05 clamps (Design 3) and 850mm long temporary rail joint fishplate, when opening the line at speeds between 50mph and 80 mph.
