This Procedure applies to the following.
• All Earthworks greater than 3 metres in height owned by Railtrack including Cuttings adjacent to tunnel portals and Natural Slopes whose failure could affect the safety of train operations.
• Known sites of instability in Earthworks below 3 metres in height.
• Remediation of Earthworks - see RT/CE/S/071: Design of Earthworks.
• Design of new Earthworks excluding structures retaining or supporting Earthworks and foundations constructed on or within Earthworks - see RT/CE/S/071.
• All Earthworks subject to scour and flooding (irrespective of height).
• As far as reasonably practicable Earthworks owned or controlled by an Outside Party where instability or Slope Failure could affect the safety of train operations.
• Approach Embankments to overline bridges over 3m in height (except where owned by a Highways Authority or other competent examining authority).
This Procedure does not apply to the following.
• Effects caused by mining subsidence - for which RT/CE/P/037 applies,
• Coastal and estuarial defences/erosion.
PURPOSE
This Procedure sets out Railtrack’s requirements for the following:
• Management of Earthworks.
• Recording of the results of Examinations and appropriate Evaluations
• Actions required following Examinations or Evaluations.
• Examination and management of Embankments and Cuttings for scour and flooding.
