Introduction

Railtrack Company Standard RT/CE/S/102 Issue 4, June 2000, Track Construction Standards Section 4.9, fourth bullet point, permits joints fitted with emergency clamped fishplates and a Railtrack - approved clamping system under conditions stated in the clause.

This was intended to allow these joints to be in the track for very limited periods during maintenance or renewal work.

It has been found that in some cases these temporary joints have been left in track for many weeks, resulting in damage to the rail ends and increased safety risk.
