The specification applies to all occasions when any rail for use in Railtrack's infrastructure is cut, by saw or disc, or drilled. The specification does not deal with flame-cutting of rail.
PURPOSE
This specification sets out the requirements for saw- and disc-cut rail ends and for holes drilled through rails. Dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements are specified.
This specification is also intended to assist in the evaluation of plant used for these processes.
