This specification defines requirements for:

• a cyclic loading test on a fully assembled joint

• the space-envelope within which all parts of the assembled joint must lie

• the electrical resistance of the joint

• the geometry of the rail top at the joint.

This standard is restricted to joints made using steel fishplates and 113A rail to BS11:1986.

PURPOSE

To ensure the durability and reliability of new designs of insulated rail joint proposed for installation on Railtrack's infrastructure.
