This specification describes in a simple non-technical manner the storage, installation and testing requirements for AWS temporary speed restriction magnets to staff who will generally be less familiar with the electrical performance of AWS. It is primarily aimed at Track Maintenance staff or other multi-disciplinary staff who may be engaged in the installation of these speed restriction magnets.
This specification covers the following types of speed restriction magnet:
• BR standard-strength design conforming to BRS SM631, PADS No. 62/006773;
• BR extra-strength design conforming to BRS SM636, PADS No. 62/006776;
• the two-rail fitting designs manufactured by Vortok International, PA05/00971 (standard strength version PADS No. 62/006790 and extra-strength version PADS No. 62/006791);
• the single-rail fitting designs manufactured by Yardene, PA05/1086 (standard strength version PADS No. 62/006787 and extra-strength version PADS No. 62/006788).
This specification does not supersede any of the Signalling Maintenance testing requirements identified in the Network Rail RT/SMS standards for BR designs however, there are different requirements for non-BR designs and these are identified in this standard.
Note: although this specification identifies certain safeguards that need to be taken when fitting speed restriction magnets, it does not define general personnel and system safety measures that shall be implemented in order to fit these magnets.
PURPOSE
The aim of this specification is to define the requirements for the storage, installation and testing of TSR and ESR AWS magnets.
Note: the term "speed restriction magnet" is used throughout this document and can be taken to mean either TSR or ESR magnets. Also, the terms 'yellow magnet' and 'green magnet' should be taken to mean standard strength and extra strength magnet respectively.
