This procedure shall apply to the promulgation of professional best practice on technical issues to Network Rail's contractors, suppliers and its own Engineers concerning any signalling equipment installed on Network Rails infrastructure.

Purpose

This procedure defines the arrangements for managing the production, authorisation and distribution of SIGTANs. These controlled standards are the method by which Network Rail will advise its own Engineers and it's contractors about changes to signalling equipment and problems with signalling equipment in service. SIGTANs contain advice based on lessons learnt and current best practice. They are not mandatory, but may subsequently give rise to a change in Network Rail company standards.
