Introduction

This Instruction is to be used for welding a length of mast on to a mast of same section and same grade of steel.

The mast should be installed with the welded on section at the top to keep the bending moment at the joint to a minimum.

Any welder undertaking this work shall have been approved and certified by British Railways for the process of downhand butt welding.
