Introduction

Certain areas of overhead electrified lines are associated with jointless track circuits (specifically those detailed in Appendix A) where return conductors with booster transformers and also earth wires are installed. These areas require different approaches to earthing and bonding. The details which follow give the instances where deviation from existing rules and procedures is necessary in order to cater for the changed earthing and bonding circumstances.

It should be noted that in some parts of the overall area covered by this document there may be places where track circuiting arrangements may permit direct connection to traction return rails. However because the areas concerned may be difficult to define and to prevent possible errors in connections occurring, the rules quoted herein shall be fully applied to the complete areas quoted in Appendix A.
