The contents of this Product Specification apply to all Alstom Reed Type RT track circuits. The more general requirements can be found in RT/E/S/11752. Safety issues specific to Reed applications are included; general safety issues are contained in RT/E/S/11752 and other relevant Railtrack standards.

The following applications are addressed:

• Standard double and single rail Reed track circuit;

• High Performance arrangement of Reed track circuit (single rail);

• High Power variant Reed track circuit (in restricted detail);

• jointless Reed track circuit (in very restricted detail, as not generally permitted for new work).

The earlier Type ‘R' Reed track circuit is not covered by this document, though the operating principles are the same and most of the same considerations apply equally to type R as to type RT. However the actual equipment is physically different, and the transmitter and receiver gains, unlike the type RT, are pre-set or semi pre-set.

Purpose

This Product Specification gives details of best practice in respect of Alstom Type RT Reed track circuits in order to achieve the requirements of RT/E/S/11752.
