For the purposes of this specification, a Data Logging System is defined as the hardware and software of a system designed to record change of state data for monitored functions, providing access to the data both remotely and locally, and providing a facility for data analysis. The Data Logging system may be provided as part of a Condition monitoring system.

The Data Logging Systems to be assessed are those that are used for monitoring systems and are judged not to be safety critical.

This document is relevant for systems that are permanent installations and should be given appropriate consideration for temporary installations.

The scope is limited to the interfaces with the signalling equipment, the requirements of the Data Logging System itself, and the diagnostic tools which facilitate the analysis of the data.

For issues of planning, installing and commissioning the Data Logging System within the signalling installation refer to Company Procedure, RT/E/P/11305 (Ref. 5).

PURPOSE

The purpose of this specification is to define the mandatory and desirable requirements for the Data Logging Systems used to monitor signalling installations, to ensure consistency throughout Railtrack Infrastructure.

As the system has no direct safety impact to the Railway, a Safety Integrity Level is not defined. However, a number of Safety Related requirements have been identified and these are annotated with a (S).

Data Logging Systems can be assumed to have a Safety Related application and due care must be taken in its use as described in the Company Procedure (Ref. 5), especially with regard to incident investigation.
