This specification applies to telephone equipment within the electrical control room (associated with an a.c. or d.c. traction network) and all external locations. It also lays down the general requirements for "blanket" communications from the ECR, i.e. radio links.

The specification does not include requirements for site installation or commissioning works.

The document is to be read in conjunction with Railtrack Line Specification RT/E/S/21000, "Operational, Environmental and General Requirements for Remote Control Equipment for Electrical Distribution Systems" and the relevant procurement specification.

Purpose

This specification states the requirements for communication between ECR's or control centres and railway stations, depots, signal boxes and lineside locations within their area of control.
