This specification applies to the control room finishes, heating, lighting and venting requirements within electrical control rooms (ECR's) or control centres and their associated equipment rooms.

The specification applies particularly to new or refurbished control rooms where visual display unit (VDU) technology is to be introduced. Specific reference is made to desk design associated with high resolution graphics (HRG) man/machine interface equipment. Although many of the principles will remain valid, care should be taken when interpreting this standard for use in conjunction with other VDU based systems.

The specification does not include requirements for site installation or commissioning works.

The document is to be read in conjunction with Railtrack Line specification RT/E/S/21000, "Operational, Environmental and General Requirements for Remote Control Equipment for Electrical Distribution Systems" and the relevant procurement specification.
