This specification pertains to the Visual Display Unit (VDU) interface for non SCADA-based functions associated with the management of the electrical distribution system. The scope of the specification includes the GUI design requirements for the following:

a) Mapping of field equipment layout and position (e.g. isolation diagrams, ordinance survey maps and generation of maps specifically for electrical distribution field work)

b) Data archiving and retrieval (e.g. retrieval of isolation sequence plans and reports)

c) Tools related to isolation planning (e.g. off-line simulations, switching lists and electronic forms & documents)

d) Graphical depiction of historical data (e.g. trend diagrams)

This specification does not apply to functions associated with SCADA-based systems, i.e. real-time control and monitoring functions. The GUI requirements for these functions are addressed by Network Rail Company Specification RT/E/S/21096 ‘Design of High Resolution Graphic VDU Displays for Electrical Distribution Systems'.

The interface design requirements in this specification provide a minimum expected standard for basic planning and administrative functions associated with the management of the electrical distribution system. Where additional functions are required for an individual project, the requirements should be documented in the project-specific Procurement Specification which shall be used in conjunction with, and shall not contradict, this document.

This specification should be used in conjunction with RT/E/S/21000, ‘Operational, Environmental and General Requirements for Remote Control Equipment for Electrical Distribution Systems', and with RT/E/S/21096 ‘Design of High Resolution Graphic VDU Displays for Electrical Distribution Systems' where the ‘off-line' administrative functions are integrated with the remote, real-time SCADA-based functions.

Purpose

This specification states the minimum design requirements for the Graphical User Interface (GUI) of non SCADA-based applications associated with managing the network's electrical distribution system (e.g. the Network Management System). Such applications are used for the analysis and archiving of data, planning of supply configurations (e.g. planning isolations and management of isolations), scenario simulation (for planning or training), report generation for real-time and historical system data, and provision of access to reference material (e.g. track diagrams and isolation instructions).
