Introduction

This specification details the test requirements for the Glass Fibre Height and Stagger Gauge to establish if it is electrically safe to be issued for use on live overhead line equipment.

The Glass Fibre Height and Stagger Gauge is used to measure, from rail level, the height and stagger of the contact wire on Overhead Line Equipment. For this purpose the head of the gauge is brought into physical contact with the contact wire, which may be "live".

The only part requiring to be electrically tested is the Inner Sliding Section of the gauge.

The complete gauge will also have a visual and mechanical examination to ensure it is fit for service.

Reference in this specification to "the Engineer" means the Area Electrification Engineer/Area Electrification Manager or appropriate authority.
