Introduction
This instruction details the routine maintenance of BICC single wire Porcelain Section Insulators. This is to ensure that all are inspected and maintained to give satisfactory service.
All adjustments detailed are based on the assumption that the wire tensions are correct.
The Section Insulators are to be examined and maintained as described below every two years.
Routine Insulator cleaning shall be carried out in accordance with Document EHQ/PR/O/005.
The initial examination is to be completed before defective components are replaced or adjustments carried out.
Care must be taken to avoid overtightening or overstraining non-ferrous nuts and screws whilst adjustments are being undertaken.
Permissible offsets of in running section insulators are:-
a) Symmetrical Section Insulator : 0" to 3";
b) Asymmetrical Section Insulator : 3" to 15".
After maintenance, make a visual check of the Pantograph passage of the first electric train through the section insulator, where this can conveniently be arranged.
