This Notice applies to all long range colour light signals on the Railtrack network.

Purpose

Polycarbonate outer signal lenses have better impact resistance than glass and so have advantages in areas subject to vandalism. However, they deteriorate optically more rapidly due to weathering and cleaning damage. This SIN aims to establish records of where polycarbonate lenses are fitted and their present condition so that their use can be properly managed.
