SUMMARY
This document provides a step by step guide to configuring both BR1631 "intelligent" and "dumb" Superlink network nodes.
Network nodes (either stand alone nodes or node cards within a rack) are general-purpose units which can connect a range of computers or terminals to a Superlink network. Nodes used within an IECC must be configured to adopt the node names and communications protocols expected by IECC computer units.
The configuration adopted by a node is held in battery-backed RAM within the node. If a node is faulty or is replaced by a spare, then it may be necessary to alter this configuration. This document explains how this is done.
Note that a node's name may be temporarily changed using the ISM ‘NODE ID' command (as described in IECC 6000). However, this technique will not store the node's name during power failures, and is therefore not suitable for preparing spare nodes for IECC operation.
The Superlink firmware version is V7.5 (CAP) (NC). Whenever a node is returned for repair, or a new node purchased, this version reference must be quoted. Section 7 shows how the firmware version may be checked.
It should be noted that the node configuration is maintained during power loss by on on board battery. This battery should be changed every two years to ensure correct operation of the node.
