Introduction
This Track Work Instruction covers what is involved in the repair of fastenings in concrete sleepers, bearers - or on slab track.
These types of repair were pioneered on the now obsolete BJB fastening. The BJB fastening was held in the concrete using a beech wood plug. When the plug started to disintegrate the fastening became loose. The remedy was to core out the old housing, apply epoxy grout to the hole and insert a new Pandrol housing.
The method can only be applied to fastenings which have a single point fixing in the concrete. It is not suitable for multiple fixing point fastenings such as the SHC.
The repair technique is now routine for failed Pandrol housings.
