Introduction

This Track Work Instruction covers how to manage gall of the rail and gall of the chair.

Gall is not an isolated defect.

It may affect many different places in the same rail.

There are two types of gall:

• Vertical - where the underside of the rail foot is worn away.

• Lateral - where the side of the rail foot is worn away.
