The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs’ mission is, “Serving Those Who Served.” In keeping with this mission, planning began in 1998 with the department and NBBJ Architects for a new skilled nursing facility. The Veterans Affairs existing campus located in Retsil, Wash., required an additional 259-bed facility to serve its assisted living needs. The project goals included several components.
