The Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF) at NREL was programmed to be both a model of energy efficiency and to highlight the tremendous potential for energy reuse through waste heat recovery. Waste heat from the building's 10,000 ft2 (929 m2) data center completely heats the building's office and conference areas, and is used in the first stage of heating lab makeup air.
