The basic refrigerating subsystem of display cases - the evaporator and its expansion valve - is outlined and discussed, with the aim of proving the annual savings on compressor energy consumption due to reduction of the condensing temperature made possible by improved liquid injection means . A mathematical simulation model has been developed and the results are reported. In addition to the energy savings mentioned, other potential benefits are briefly commented on.
