Good refrigeration engineering practice dictates that compression equipment be selected for specific duties. Each application requires a precise analysis of load factors, temperatures, pressures and factors influencing the mechanical limitations.
The selection, however, must ultimately provide the user with the required duty at the minimum energy usage. Consequently, the application of power saving systems is becoming common practice to achieve these requirements.
The obvious energy saving systems are preventative and scheduled maintenance systems, heat reclaim systems, and plant optimization.
Very important, but in some cases a less obvious power saving consideration, is the proper selection of the equipment. Particularly where the selection concerns the application of screw compressors, the correct selection of the built-in ratio (Vi) is of paramount importance for minimal power absorption.
