Intuitively, it would seem a massively constructed zone would have a longer delay in the conversion of heat gain to cooling load than a lightweight zone. However, results recently obtained during the course of ASHRAE research project RP-359 indicate that this is not necessarily true; a lightweight zone may well exhibit a longer delay than a similar, but more massive zone. This paper presents an explanation of this phenomenon and demonstrates it through use of computer simulation.
