A method for directly estimating the tube length and static pressure drop of air-cooled condensers for refrigerants R12, 22, 114, and 502 is presented and graphically explained. Vapor cooling, condensing, and liquid subcooling regions are distinguished. Correlation equations for average heat transfer coefficient and average friction factor, which contain an inner wall to air heat transfer coefficient, are used for the calculation in the condensing region. The tube length and pressure drop predicted by the present method are compared with those specified and measured for actual condensers.
