In order to optimally design and control an air-conditioning system, a philosophy based on energy conservation and environmental quality should be applied. The authors propose that environmental quality should be prescribed by an index that combines thermal factors with nonthermal factors. This paper aims to verify the hue-heat hypothesis and its significant factors. After three series of experiments were performed, it was concluded that the hue-heat impression was partly supported, that interactions between color and thermal sensations, which support the hue-heat hypothesis, were observed in the transient condition of rising temperature experienced in winter. In addition to the thermal sensation, the skin temperature, the comfort feeling, the hue-heat feeling, and the visual comfort of color were statistically examined.
