This paper describes the characteristics of an improved heat transformer ("type two" absorption heat pump). The heat transformer of 77 kW output uses lithium bromide and water (LiBr/H2 O) as working fluids and can boost the waste heat temperature by approximately 60 °C and provide more than 150 °C output steam from waste heat of 90°C.

The characteristic tests on the steady and transient states were carried out with automatic operation based on the fiquid level control. As a result, the time required to reach steady state in the transient experiments was 30 to 40 minutes. The experimental results of the output in steady state were compared with the results calculated by the computer System simulation. It was found that the experimental results agreed well with the calculated results.

From these results, the prototype was improved, and automatic control methods for quick response were obtained.
