Presents the mean monthly temperatures for Jordan and shows that the traditional value of 18.3° C (65° F) is not a suitable base temperature for evaluating the heating degree-days (HDD) in Jordan. By thermally analysing a typical Jordanian residence, a base temperature of 15.5°C (60°F) is recommended. These data cover part of the present lack of information in ASHRAE handbooks concerning HDD in Third World countries.

KEYWORDS: weather, Middle East, degree days, building services, handbooks, data, calculating, solar radiation, solar energy.
