Experiments on adsorption heat pumps operating either with a zeolite-water pair or with an active carbon-methanol pair have been performed on a laboratory-scale unit (8 kW heat source). A three-adsorber heat pump, consisting of a two-adsorber zeolite-water cycle topping an intermittently active carbon-methanol cycle, has been designed and tested. An experimental cooling COP equal to 1.06 has been obtained. Adsorption heat pumps or refrigerating systems could be part of the answer to the problem of CFC atmospheric pollution.

KEYWORDS: experiment, adsorption, heat pumps, performance, coefficient of performance, air pollution, outdoor, refrigeration, fluorocarbons.
