A survey and analysis of the operation of building equipment with remote monitoring systems was conducted over a three-year period from 1986 to 1988 to investigate reliability. Presents an overview of the remote monitoring systems, the data analysed, and an outline of the survey conducted. Analyses from various perspectives the conditions involved in alarm generation, including building use and scale classification, month, day, and time, and causes of alarms related to equipment type. From these results, a statistical analysis of the most commonly occurring factors was compiled for buildings with the following specifications. 1) Building use - cultural facility. 2) Size - small to medium-sized building. 3) Month/day/time - times when there are load fluctuations in start-up of air-conditioner operation. 4) Alarm causes - failure of mechanism, causing faults in heating equipment. The analysis covers a number of cases of initial failures (equipment that breaks down during operation soon after being installed). For this analysis, concepts related to premature breakdown and method of evaluation are presented. Gives actual instances of initial failures along with the history of alarm generation for initial failures and results of analysis according to alarm cause and type of facility involved.
