The characteristics of the air-contact temperature sensor, such as point measurement and dry-bulb temperature sensing, cause difficulty with installation location and do not include the measurement of radiation. The air-contact temperature sensor could no longer comply with the development of the modern air-conditioning industry, and that is why the radiant temperature sensor came into the spotlight as a new measure-ment technology for air-conditioning automatic control. Radiant temperature sensors have a different measurement scope and physical variable from air-contact temperature sensors, and their remote sensing characteristic allow a wider choice of location. This is a great leap forward in the measurement of the indoor thermal environment. This paper presents the principle of the radiant temperature sensor and the results from using this technology.
