Absorption refrigeration is suitable for utilization of low thermal potential energy sources. For such applications, the use of R22-solvent refrigerant systems is advantageous. To calculate the overall performance characteristics of a refrigeration unit operating with R22dimethyl formamide, the enthalpy-concentration diagram of this system was constructed and used together with an efficient thermodynamic cycle. The range of operating conditions was delineated and the operating conditions are found to be stable over a broad range of generator temperatures. Comparison with the system R22-dimethyl ether of tetraethylene glycol indicated that with R22-dimethyl formamide, higher values of the coefficient of performance would be obtained over the entire range of operation and lower values of the cirCUlation ratio over most of the range.
