To address the power grid congestion brought up by recent increasingly stochastic and fluctuating energy supply, the energy flexibility from demand side becomes a crucial role. However, while many studies and engineering practices aiming to increase load flexibility focus on single buildings, it is important to critically evaluate and understand how the flexibility potential of individual buildings can contribute towards energy flexibility on an aggregated level. Therefore, this study aims to develop a coordinated demand response (DR) strategy for the operation of heat pump (HP) integrated with thermal energy storage (TES) and analyze the energy flexibility potential on an aggregated level. Carbon intensity and aggregated peak load are proposed for the end-users to respond and shift the load. Moreover, the performance of aggregated level and single-building level are compared. The results show that while considering the coordination between buildings, an extra 50% peak load on aggregated level and 9.2% less carbon emission can be achieved during a two-week simulation. A reduction in investment of TES can also be obtained from DR strategy with considering coordination between buildings.
