1. Scope

This Standard establishes first and second preference series of thicknesses, widths, and lengths for flat metal products. It applies to those products conventionally known as plate, sheet, strip, foil, and ribbon, where the width is substantially greater than the thickness. It does not cover rectangular and square cross-section metal products conventionally known as rod, wire, and bar. The thicknesses of flat metal products are nominal and apply to the base metal only, excluding the thickness of any coating.
