1. Scope

This Standard establishes preferred sizes for round, square, rectangular and hexagonal metal products conventionally known as rod, wire, and bar. It does not cover flat metal products conventionally known as plate, sheet, strip, foil, and ribbon, where the width is substantially greater than the thickness . It also establishes preferred sizes for rod and wire having special uses; namely, steel wire, hot-rolled steel wire rod and electrical wire.
