The forced convection heat transfer coefficients appearing in the ASHRAE Handbook of Fundamentals are based on work done nearly 40 years ago. These values are based on the forced convection coefficients obtained from a one-ft square plate imbedded in a long duct. Radiation effects have not been accounted for. With the advent of high speed computers and more sophisticated building load modeling techniques, an analytical method for the determination of heat transfer coefficients is needed.

This paper presents a possible analytical method for determining the average heat transfer coefficient for flow past a wall where the thermal and velocity boundary layers start at the leading edge and where the wind may strike the wall at any angle.
