Analyses of theory and reported inaccuracies in the traditional degree day formula are used to develop a correction factor for net heating requirements vs. degree days. This factor is then used to isolate the apparent effect of furnace oversizing in the energy requirements of 140 gas heated homes. The result is a significantly more accurate degree day formula.
