Describes a microcomputer-based data acquisition system developed to monitor accurately indoor air pollutants, such as CO2. In addition, using tracer gases, this multipurpose system can be used to estimate air infiltration, forced ventilation, and internal convection, factors which influence variations in pollutant concentrations. The system comprises two nondispersive infrared gas analysers, CO2 and N2O, connected to a computer-controlled air sampler apparatus, capable of the periodic measurement of air at multiple locations in a building. Describes the design of the air sampling apparatus and identifies the factors to consider when monitoring CO2 or tracer gas concentrations in one zone of a building. Discusses selection of design parameters for the air sampling system. Presents results for an example application.

KEYWORDS: Carbon dioxide, buildings, indoor, air pollution, contaminants, tracers, air infiltration, ventilation, convection, nitrous oxide, sampling, measuring, gas analysers, monitoring, zones, infrared radiation.
